Thailand’s roads in general are pretty chaotic to the newcomer. Now it may look like it is pretty lawless out there but LOVEPATTAYA can assure you that there is method to the madness.
If you don’t feel you have the confidence to jump in and tackle the roads head-on, LOVEPATTAYA advises you use the wealth of public transport in Pattaya.
Motorbike taxi’s are by far the quickest way the navigate the city, weaving in and out of the queues of traffic is an exhilarating experience, but not one for the faint hearted. Fares cost anywhere between 50thb and 200thb depending on how far your final destination is.
If you not up for the motorbike then why not hop on a songtaew. You will see these blue pick ups all over Pattaya. Songtaew literally means ‘two rows’ in reference to the benches in the back. Most songtaews run around on fix routes like buses and a journey doesn’t cost any more than 20thb for anywhere in the city (just hand the driver your money and walk away). You can book songtaews to pick you up from your hotel or home for a bit more, but not much. By far the cheapest way to navigate the city.
You can also get metered taxis around Pattaya. These are the bring pink cabs that you will see all over town. Probably the most expensive way to get around but you will be chauffeured to your final destination in an air conditioned taxi in comfort. Just flag one down and hop in. A taxi from the airport will cost you around 1500thb which also covers the costs of the toll gates .
Public buses will leave the airport on the hour, every hour, and cost around 150thb per person and it takes around 2 hours to get to Pattaya.
The other option to public transport is hiring your own vehicle. If you feel confident on the roads get stuck in, driving around Pattaya is as fun as it is chaotic! There are places all over the city where you can rent a car, truck or bike. All come fully insured and ready to go. Check out LOVEPATTAYAs car hire tab for more details.
