City Breaks – Why Choose Pattaya
How many of us are in need of a break; a holiday; or simply a few days away from the normal mundane routines that become our daily lives?
We all ask ourselves this simple question every now and then but often we are too occupied with our busy work schedules or cannot afford to take a fortnight’s holiday in the world’s most popular getaway cities or iconic beaches.
Pattaya however, offers many people the opportunity to take that well earned vacation and at a fraction of the cost of its bigger neighbour Bangkok or its idyllic sister destination of Phuket.
Yes Pattaya is renowned for its seedy reputation that attracts tourists galore but it has so much more to offer holidaymakers than the party style activities, Go-Go bars and clubs.
It has beaches to die for, speedboats to whisk you off to one of the heavenly islands, a few kilometres from the shores of the city. In fact if you travel a mere ten kilometres from the city, you can enjoy serenity and seclusion on the island of Koh Pai. There is no accommodation to be found on this deserted location but what you will find is exclusive beaches to chill out on. You can travel by boat from Pattaya with the greatest of ease and be back by nightfall to your hotel.
Another peaceful yet interesting place to visit in Nong Nooch Botanical Gardens, featuring over 600 acres of beautiful gardens, flowers, hedgerows and much more.
The family will love it here for they can interact with the many animals. They can feed fish, take a ride on an elephant, have their photo taken with a tiger, see tropical birds, observe the colourful butterflies or enjoy one of the many shows.
For the more adventurous amongst you, why not take to the rougher terrain in an ATV or off road motorbike. Get away from the city and let off steam on mud tracks, forest trails and sandy trails. Pattaya has many companies, who can offer these specialised off road facilities at affordable prices.
Take the family to one of the water parks and get wet and wild on the slides and swimming pools. There are very good options in this department such as Cartoon Network Amazone, Ramayana Water Park or Splashdown Action Park, all of which offer great family entertainment.
Why not visit Mini Siam, an idyllic park, where people can wander round historic venues from around the world such a Rome, Paris, Athens or San Francisco.
For those who enjoy shopping, Pattaya has a number of excellent shopping malls such as Central Festival, The Avenue and Mike shopping centres. Of course you could also visit the very popular Floating Market or Thepprasit Night Market both of which offer dissimilar shopping experiences.
In the evenings, visit one of the many excellent restaurants on offer. The city is awash with eating houses featuring Thai, Indian, Italian, British, Greek, Norwegian, Dutch and many more restaurants offering international cuisine. Or you could simply enjoy the many styles of food from the street vendors – always worth a try.
Take in the recently opened KAAN show, which provides an insight into Thai literature and cultural experience.
So for those of you who are feeling drained and in need of a break, think of Pattaya before deciding on where to go. The city is more affordable for accommodation than many other Thai locations and has an amazing variety of food, entertainment and tourist attractions, making it ideal for a short weekend break.
And getting here is easy. Pattaya is only 90 minutes from Bangkok or two hours from Hau Hin by ferry.
