Everybody Dance! Love Pattaya Introduces Thai Traditional Dances
The Thai dance, or ram thai, is the main dramatic art form in Thailand. Ram thai is characterised by a striking diversity, both in its choreography and meaning. Each region of the country boasts their own varieties of ram thai.
THE CENTRAL REGION
Si nuan is the Central plains dance. It celebrates the beauty and sweetness of Thai girls and expresses the yearning of a young man conquered with their charm. Si nuan is one of the most popular dances all around Thailand.
The famous Isan dance with coconut shells, serng krapo, is a colourful representation of a peasants’ everyday life. Charming dancers perform complex choreographic movements following the sounds of pong lang, a kind of a vertical xylophone.
Slow, graceful and almost meditative movements distinguish fon sao mai which depicts the traditional skill of silk weaving. It is popular both in Isan and in the Northern provinces.
Ram nora khlong hong is a complex Southern dance which is performed on special occasions only. A skilful soloist represents a mythical kinnari, half bird and half woman. The plot of the dance follows the tale of Phra Suthon and Manora.
