It was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning in Pattaya so decided to go to koh Larn for the day.
Koh larn is a lovely island located in the gulf of Thailand and is about 7km away from Pattaya beach.
To get to this little hot spot is to go to Pattaya Bali pier situated at the end of Walking Street to travel by either a speed boat or a ferry, the ferry only costs 30 baht each way and takes 40-50 minutes and the speed boat 1500-2500 baht for private hire so a group of 6 is probably ideal which will only take about 15-20 minutes. You can also share a speedboat across to Koh Larn and pay around 400-500 baht per head but you need to hang around until the boats have between 6-10 passengers to take over. I shared a speedboat over with some other like minded tourists.
I arrived in the port town of Koh Larn ( Nabaan pier ) from here needed to get transport to one of several beaches either by baht bus ( 40thb ) or motor bike taxi 50-80thb one way, the beaches are about 10 minutes away from the port. I chose to go to Samae Beach, considered to be a bit bigger than the rest also said to be more exotic. The beach had soft golden sand and clear blue waters with many water sport activities to chose from but if you just wanted to chill for the day as i did, then a sun lounger will be the best option where you can just soak up the sun and let the day pass you by without a care in the world.
There are several restaurants on this beach offering a large menu selection from fresh catch of the day seafood to any other dish you may desire, with the option of eating in the restaurant to actually having your meal brought to your sun lounger.
Samae Beach also has full facilities such as showers and bathrooms.
koh Larn itself is about 4km long and 2km wide, there are mainly narrow roadways covered with brick pavers but you can get from one end to the other in about 10 minutes.
There are many resorts on the island that range from budget to luxury accommodations, while the rooms may be a little more steeper in price than Pattaya, people like koh Larn so much that they even stay there for extended periods such as months and years, so if koh Larn is a place you would like to spend a night or two then booking in advance is advisable. I recommend staying at the Suntosa resort for any of you looking to spend the evening there.
I had a great time on Koh Larn and it was nice to get away from the noise and the hustle and bustle of the city for a while, I recommend leaving early to get there as the last ferry back is 18:00 and its best to spend a whole day there.
