Jidaiya Japanese Restaurant

Introduction

Tree Town. One of the city’s fastest expanding areas, where you will find a host of new bars, restaurants, coffee shops and even a snooker club.

It is located on Soi Buakhao, just beyond the turning to Soi Skaw Beach, if travelling north.

Takuma, opened his restaurant in late 2017 but has been in Thailand since 2005. He employs 13 staff, including a Japanese chef and four Thai chefs, to prepare an excellent food range from the region of the world where the sun rises.

The Venue

The restaurant is two tiered and brightly light, making it easy to see when walking around the Tree Town area. A large yellow sign above the entrance, written in Japanese, welcomes you to the venue.

This is a huge eating house with over 100 seats available although we use the term seats in some instances lightly. This is because they follow the tradition in Japan of sitting on the floor with tables a foot off the ground, giving customers not only the taste of Japan’s culinary excellence but the opportunity to eat in the style of Japanese people.

There are of course standard booths, where customers can sit as if in a western venue, so there is no need to panic if you are frail and unable to get down to floor level.

Two televisions are present in this air conditioned environment, which generally display, Japanese programs.

Take the stairs to the open sided roof top, and you will find more standard tables and views across the city as you enjoy your meal.

The Food

The first thing you will notice as you see the edibles being delivered to customers around the restaurant, is the vibrant colours and presentation of the food. Bowls play host to delicious looking raw fish or Sushi as you will know it as and brightly coloured, delicious looking items are placed in front of each customer in turn.

The style and presentation are simply to die for but what can you order from their menu?

We took a look through the bill of fare, which of course is written in Japanese but provides English explanations for each and every dish.

They start with Grated Yam with Tuna, Pickled Squid, Octopus, Pickled Chinese Cabbage, Steak Tartare, Liver and Tongue.

Westerners if they wish, could enjoy a Pork Cutlet, Chicken Wings, Fried Vegetables and Rice, Chicken in Tartar Sauce or a tasty looking Chinese Chicken offering.

They have a range of salads available, all of which are served in a Japanese style. Gyoza, Tofu, Egg and Bean Sprout, Shrimp, Scallops, Salmon or Pork Ribs are all to be found on a excellent menu.

They have a special BBQ section, presenting Chicken, Pork, Beef, Vegetables and Seafood.

There is a Seafood range too, offering everything from Mackerel to BBQ’d Squid. Pastas are also on the list if you fancy something with an Italian flavour and of course there are the traditional rice dishes too.

Most of you will see the colourful raw dishes being presented in exquisite style and may wish to try Octopus, Tuna, Eel or how about Seaweed wrapped in Cucumber, which may not sound good but it looks awesome when presented to to you on a plate.

This menu is in a word “superb”. If you enjoy sampling the cuisines of other nations, then this one is a must.

Drinks

Enjoy an ice cold Singha, Leo, Heineken or one of their other bottled beers. They also have Asahi on draught.

Spirits, wines and soft drinks are all to be found on their beverage list.

Opening Times

So you wish to try a taste of the orient and look forward to visiting this large Japanese diner. Well – you will be made welcome by the friendly staff from 17:00 till midnight every evening.

Conclusion

We have all passed by Sushi houses in shopping malls and looked on in Awe at the fancy foodstuffs on display. Many of you will have ventured in and tried the food on offer.

Whether you have or you have yet to be tempted, this is a wonderful restaurant where you can order delicious food from the east. You never know, you may love the edibles and become a regular customer at Jidaiya Restaurant.

Highly recommended by many and worthy of a visit.
