Located in the lush surroundings of Chom Puo Wildlife Reserve, Khao Kheow Open Zoo is approximately a 35 minute drive from central Pattaya.
Khao Kheow and its grounds are divided into 3 sections; animal habitats (400 acres), public recreational areas (200 acres) and research area (1,400acres). The vast research area is where Khao Kheow conducts its breeding programs and conservation projects for endangered species such as the majestic white tiger. Founded in 1974 around the base of Khao Kheow Mountain, Khao Kheow is the first zoo in Thailand to become a member of WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums) which ensures that the treatment and care for the zoos 300+ species is of the highest quality.
Khao Kheow Open Zoo is a fantastic day out and especially popular if you have kids. It’s a great interactive experience being right up close to the animals. With handling and feeding
attractions, including elephant treks, chimpanzee habitats and the otter pool (cute)! You are able to watch lions and tigers in there giant enclosures and for a little extra, the ultimate experience of sitting with an orang-utan!
Rent a Golf Buggy
Khao Kheow is so large that it would be impossible to see it all in one day without some help. So why not hire out a golf buggy to ferry you and your family around? This frees you up to enjoy and explore the zoo thoroughly at your own pace. Be sure to arrive nice and early so you have the whole day to explore.
Two-Tiered Admission fee
Like so many privately owned attractions in Thailand there is a two-tiered admission fee. Foreigners (farang) pay a little more than the Thai residents. But don’t let this put you off as it is still a very reasonable price and the majority of the entrance fee is put back into the zoo to keep it well maintained.
Also it is a small price to pay for such a fun-packed day out.
