Murphy’s Irish Bar sits in what is known as “The Darkside” of Pattaya, away from the touristy city centre. This popular Irish themed bar sits on Soi Boonsampan or to give its local name Soi Khao Noi, which most people know it as. Like most streets in the city, you will find Bars, Restaurants, 7/11’s, motorbike repair shops, laundries and guest houses and despite its location, Soi Khao Noi is no exception to this rule. It is a bustling street that runs from Sukhumvit Road to Khao Talo.
Murphy’s is owned by Steve and Poy. Steve is a former Olympic cyclist and hails from Cork in the Republic of Ireland. He competed in the 1988 games in Seoul, South Korea. Steve arrived in Thailand in 2003. He opened Murphy’s Irish Bar in 2015. Steve’s favourite saying is “Never going home” which he often uses on the bar’s social media pages. Poy is from Nong Khai in the north-east of Thailand close to the border with Laos. General Manager Phil, assists with the day to day running of the bar. Phil comes from Manchester and is a huge Manchester City fan. He is a former BMW workshop manager and ex panel beater. Phil has been in the Kingdom since 2009, working at the bar since 2016.
Murphy’s Irish Bar is a classy venue. It features a large rectangular bar as its centrepiece. There are a number of cushioned barstools situated around the bar, for those who like to eat or drink, whilst chatting to the friendly bar staff. There are around 120 seats in and outside the bar with food and drink served wherever you select to sit.
Inside there are comfortable alcove styled sofas, hard wood tables with large leather seats and smaller tables with cushioned chairs. There are also cosy sofas to lay back in, if that is your preference. Whether you are having an intimate meal for two or a party of twenty, Murphy’s has the capability to cater for your needs.
There is external seating at the front of the bar, a few metres from the roadside should you like to enjoy the fresh air and watch the world go by. Or why not sit by the swimming pool at the rear? Yes there is even a pool that you can take a dip in between drinks. The bar is fully air-conditioned, has customer Wi-Fi and free pool table. It is clean, well decorated, spacious, bright and airy.
Six TVs show a variety of sports covering everything from football, rugby and F1 to horse racing, baseball or Australian rules. Whatever you fancy watching, if it is on television, Murphy’s will almost certainly be able to provide a channel to meet your requirements. Is it a bar or is it restaurant or even a lounge? Actually it is all three rolled into one.
Again Murphy’s Irish Bar excel in this department with their vast array of beers, spirits, wines, cocktails and shots. If you prefer draught beers, you can choose from San Miguel, Heineken, Tiger or Guinness or try one of their draught ciders from Thatchers or Magners. Maybe an aperitif is more your thing, yes they even supply those too. For non-drinkers, there are a number of soft drinks on offer. Considering the standard and comfort on offer at Murphy’s Irish Bar, the prices are fantastic. They operate Happy Hours between 10:00 and 17:00 Monday to Thursdays and 10:00 till 16:00 at the weekends.
Murphy’s Irish Bar’s menu covers a wide range of cuisine from Thai, British and European including good old pub grub. There is something within the menu for everyone and again, prices and portions are exceptional. There are daily and weekly specials on offer which are displayed on boards and in the menus. The restaurant also takes bookings in advance.
There is live entertainment every Wednesday evening featuring a regular band. They are also known to host events with special guests. Check their Facebook page or notice boards within the bar for details: The Bar employs 16 full-time staff, who will always greet you with a smile and wish you farewell as you depart. They are efficient as they go about their work but will take time to chat with customer whenever time permits.
However if their is a specific sporting event that people wish to see, they will open early or remain late to cater for their customers.
