It is one of the most beautiful Thai ceremonies, the Krathong is made from banana leaves and flowers.
You place a little money on board, then when it floats away it hopefully will take your bad luck along with it.
The floating lanterns are quite a beautiful spectacular sight in the night sky. Thai tradition states if you make a wish before launching the lantern, then if it is still alight when it goes out of sight your wish will come true.
Here are some guys who had a little trouble with lift-off before a successful launch
From 7.30 am along Beach Road many people were already preparing for the nights festivities.
The Krathongs range from the simple to the elaborate, and are priced accordingly.
Night falls and Beach Road comes to life with all the vendors hoping to make some money from the huge effort and countless hours many of them have invested into this project.
Sadly the evening of November 25 of Pattaya beach was very subdued, compared to previous years when it was standing
room only and the sky was alight with thousands of lanterns. Perhaps is was the heavy afternoon downpour that kept people away, however for whatever the reason I estimate the crowd was only around 10% compared with 2014.
Lets hope crowds will arrive for the Fireworks on Friday and Saturday.
Irrespective of the smaller crowds everyone, especially the children, really had a lot of fun releasing their Krathongs and launching their lanterns. This wonderful celebration is a very happy time for everyone.
