SAMUT PRAKAN: A 15-year-old boy live-streamed himself becoming angry while playing an online video game, hammering his keyboard and scolding his opponents before trying to attack his mother with a knife, drawing heavy criticism from netizens as the clip went viral.
The boy’s 66-year-old grandmother told the Bangkok Post on Monday that her grandchild, a Mathayom Suksa 2 student at a school in Samut Prakan, has apologised to his mother over the incident and promised not to act aggressively again.
The grandmother said that several days ago she was awoken by the sounds of her grandchild hitting his keyboard and scolding his friends, and discovered that he was angry because they had “stolen” items from him in the game.
She tried to console him and told him to stop playing the game, fearing he would be unable to control himself. She said he suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and had to take medications every day.
The boy’continued to hammer on the keyboard before disappearing into the kitchen. At this point, his mother woke up, put on her son’s headset and berated those playing the game with him. She then threw the headset on the floor, causing it to break.
Her son then returned from the kitchen brandishing a knife. Enraged by seeing the headset damaged, he appeared to threaten his mother with the knife, but the grandmother was able to seize it from him.
After about five minutes, the boy calmed down, prostrated himself at his mother’s feet and apologised for his aggression, the grandmother said. He was not planning to assault his mother, he said.
