Golf has long been the most popular pastime for a large number of expats, foreign tourists and Thai nationals alike, and it has emerged as a specialty of the Eastern seaboard.
Pattaya, Chonburi and Rayong feature more than 20 of South-East Asia’s finest golf courses, situated in tropical evergreen landscapes, most of which are within a 90-minute drive of the city centre.
Many of the courses in question have been designed by the world’s most famous golf course designers, such as; Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Nick Faldo. This also means that many of these courses have hosted professional level competitions including the Asian leg of the PGA tour.
Whereas in many Western countries, golf is still deemed an elitist sport for the rich, and club membership fees are too costly to make it affordable for the average working man. Golf in Pattaya, is extremely well-priced and affordable.
Green fees can start from as little as 600thb (Not including caddy fees) for a round of golf, thats just £12 or $18. This explains Pattaya’s ever-growing popularity amongst keen golfers coming to Pattaya.
Due to the all-year warm tropical climate the golf season is never-ending. A brief glance at the sports pages in Pattaya’s English-language newspapers will give you an impression of how BIG golf is among Pattaya’s multi-national expat community.
If you don’t have your own vehicle or don’t want to waste your money on a taxi to get to the golf course, there are many specialized tour agencies that offer regular golf tours, as well as a handful of bars and pubs in Pattaya that double as golf club houses and organize regular tours for their patrons.
For the less experienced players, or tourists who just feel like fine-tuning their swing, there are several driving ranges right within Pattaya’s city limits.
