The police in Thailand have a rather unique approach to cleaning up the force.
Police officers who commit minor offenses are being made to wear the iconic Hello Kitty armband which features two linked harts.
No matter how decorated the officer is if they commit an offense such as being late for work or seen littering then he can be ordered to wear the Hello Kitty armband.
The chief of the Crime Suppression Division said that simple warnings seemed to be no longer working so the rather unique form of punishment was designed to make the officers who needed reprimanding feel guilt and shame and stop them from repeating the offense.
He said “Hello Kitty is a cute symbol for young girls, it’s not something masculine police officers want covering their arms.”
It’s hoped that by getting tough on petty misdemeanors that it will lead to fewer cases of more serious offenses such as abuse of power.
How far the CSD will take this unusual punishment is unclear perhaps more serious offenses will result in Hello Kitty firearms….
Or even their vehicles having a makeover….
