These Otherworldly Natural Pools in Thailand Are Always Vivid Blue and Green
There are still some places on planet Earth that look almost otherworldly.
The Blue and Emerald pools in Krabi, Thailand, for instance, are so brightly colored that you almost feel like you’re looking at something from outer space. While there are other places where the waters are also brilliantly crystal clear and blue, their colors have nothing on these remote, natural pools.
The Emerald pool, located in the rainforest, changes color depending on the light and time of day. According to the travel blog Alyona Travels, in order to see the bright, emerald color, people should come early in the morning.
Said to be just the right temperature — not too hot or too cold — the Emerald pool is a popular place for swimming, especially considering the water is replenished by natural streams running from freshwater sources on the limestone hill above it.
The Blue pool, about a five to ten minute walk from the Emerald pool, is an equally popular and beautiful attraction, but does not allow swimmers. Underneath the crystal clear water are tree branches and brush that could easily be harmful to swimmers. But just because you can’t get in, it doesn’t mean it’s not worth the visit. The Blue pool is an Instagrammer’s paradise.
The pools are not free, but there’s a discrepancy in price when visiting. According to many reviewers on TripAdvisor, entry to the Emerald pool is 20 baht (less than $1 USD) for locals and 200 baht (about $6 USD) for tourists. Either way, an extremely affordable excursion to add to the itinerary.
